Daphne Reynoldsová má výnimočný štýl vlastný iba jej samej, má nezvyčajný, no láskyplný vzťah so svojou matkou Libby a pred sebou skvelú budúcnosť plnú možností. Ona sama sa však napriek tomu všetkému cíti byť nenaplnená - sníva totiž o stretnutí so svojím otcom, ktorého nikdy nevidela. Ten pred mnohými rokmi zažil búrlivý románik s jej matkou, ktorý sa nezvŕšil svadbou, pretože jeho aristokratická rodina so vzťahom nesúhlasila. Daphne sa teda rozhodne po ňom pátrať, a tak sa dostáva až do Londýna, kde zistí, že jej otec Lord Henry Dashwood je známym a vysoko postaveným politikom. Keď sa Henry rozhodne otvoriť srdce dcére, o ktorej nikdy predtým nevedel, že existuje, zdá sa, že jeho politická kariéra je v koncoch.
