Jake Scully, filmový dvojník, právě natáčí scénu z filmu o upírech. Je nějakou dobu zavřený v rakvi, což u něj vyvolá klaustrofobní pocity, kterými při podobných příležitostech trpí, a není schopen ze sebe vypravit ani slovo. Režisér Rubin není nijak nadšený. Když se Jake vrátí domů, najde svou přítelkyni v posteli s jiným. Je jasné, že si musí hledat nové bydlení. Prostě den blbec. Na hereckém kurzu se Jake seznámí se Samem Bouchardem, který mu udělá nabídku: protože sám musí odjet filmovat do Seattlu, může za něj Jake zatím hlídat dům jakéhosi boháče. Navíc, až bude mít dlouhou chvíli, bude moct v jednom z oken protějšího domu dalekohledem pozorovat krásnou ženu, která v noci předvádí vysoce vzrušující sexuální představení...
