Orwellovská antiutopie a kafkovská vize odosobnělého, sterilního světa, v níž dvaačtyřicetiletý Andreas přijíždí jednoho rána do cizího města, aniž by věděl, jak a proč se tam dostal. Jeho příchod je však již očekáván, je pro něho nachystán domov, zaměstnání, dokonce i partnerka. S každým novým dnem vychází najevo stále více podivných skutečností o městě a jeho fungování, Andreas se dokonce přesvědčí, že z něho nelze uniknout. Po čase se setkává s Hugem, který ho zavede do sklepa svého bytu a ukáže mu tajemnou prasklinu ve zdi, z níž se ozývá překrásná hudba evokující Andreasovi vše, co ve svém životě postrádá. Možná že je tato prasklina branou do jiného, lepšího světa. Andreas a Hugo chystají plán k útěku.
