În Orașul Iubirii Frățești, Philadelphia, Peter Flood, un copil de 8 ani, privește neajutorat cum sora lui mai mică este ucisă de conducerea neglijentă a unuia dintre vecinii săi. Chinuit de durere și resentimente, tatăl lui crede că răzbunarea este singura soluție, lăsând răni de durată asupra fiului său. 30 de ani mai târziu, Peter încă se mai luptă cu vina pe care o simte din cauza morții surorii sale și a răzbunării tatălui său.
